Challenges of Daily Medications

reminder

Many people, adults and children take medications on a daily basis.  Asthma, Lupus, high blood pressure, allergies, are some of the most common reasons that people need to take medication every day.  It is important to remember to take your medication, as this is considered maintenance for your health condition, and in some cases it can be dangerous if the medication is forgotten.  In addition to daily medications, at times you may have to add over the counter medications or antibiotics for a specific infection or short term problem.  This can be a lot to remember!

How can you be sure you take your medications as prescribed and every day as needed to maintain your good health?  Some suggest keeping a calendar in your room and leaving notes to yourself reminding you which medications you need to take each day.  You can also use an electronic calendar on your computer or phone and set reminders each day that will pop up and remind you which  medications need to be taken and when.  There are also several Apps on the iphone that you can download for free that will remind you which medications need to be taken and that will also when your prescriptions need to be refilled.

Some people find it helpful to sort their pills in a pillbox by day, so that you have all the medications need for the day in one spot.  Another tip would be to put that pillbox in a place that is part of your morning routine, for example, beside your bed, or Velcro it to your toothbrush!  If a medication has to be taken with food, you can put that medication where you eat your meals so that you will remember to take it after you have eaten.  Sticky notes, which can be bought at an office supply store can be a helpful tool, you can put a note on the bathroom mirror or on the coffeepot reminding you to take your medications.

It is important to take your medications as prescribed to maintain good health, so it is a good idea to find that tip or trick that works for you, whether it is an electronic reminder, a note, or strategic storing of your medications.  Once you find the best way to help keep you on track taking your medications, it will become a healthy habit.
